From Tolkien Gateway

This is yours, is it? --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 11:10, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yes it is. Unsigned comment by Woolly Mammoth (talk • contribs).
Thanks. How would you explain the fact I found many matching examples of this image online? --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 11:30, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Because I used this image as an inspiration for what I'm about to do. Besides, I was drunk. Woolly Mammoth 11:39, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
So you now admit that you've infringed someone else's copyright - again? --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 11:40, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Copyright of whom? This is just a photo that I'm about to edit. Woolly Mammoth 11:43, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The Internet is not some free-for-all where you can just take whatever you want without attribution; unless explicitly released with a licence allowing you to share/amend then you are infringing someone else's copyright. You can't edit images on Tolkien Gateway so why have you uploaded it?
You can regard this as "Strike Two". Twice I have caught you uploading copyrighted images; both times you denied it until I provided proof. Tomorrow I will go through and check every single one of your images. Between now and then I suggest you confess to any other images you have taken from elsewhere without permission and "edited"; should I find any image that I believe infringes copyright then I will take further action. Is that clear? --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 11:51, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Here you go! Are you happy? Unsigned comment by Woolly Mammoth (talk • contribs).
No - do you understand what I've just said? Wrecking someone else's image by flipping it and fiddling with the hue/saturation/contrast doesn't suddenly make it yours. This is copyright theft; this image will be deleted. What I now need is for you to recognise that this is unacceptable, and for you to take appropriate action against any other images you have uploaded which are also stolen from someone else. You and I both know you have uploaded images where you have done the same thing (stolen the image, fiddled with the contrast a bit, and claimed it as your own); you need to mark those images for deletion now. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 12:01, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
What images are you talking about? Unsigned comment by Woolly Mammoth (talk • contribs).
Do you understand what I have said? Yes or No? --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 12:06, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
What images, in particular, are you talking about? "VunastiMamut" is a croatized version of "Woolly Mammoth"! Woolly Mammoth 12:09, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I know that... I said "You and I both know you have uploaded images where you have done the same thing (stolen the image, fiddled with the contrast a bit, and claimed it as your own)". Do you struggle with the sentence, "Do you understand what I have said? Yes or No?"? --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 12:11, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
My images are MY OWN. You have no right, administrator or not, to act like an overlord! Woolly Mammoth 12:14, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Look, you seem to be struggling to understand this concept. Taking someone else's images and change them a bit do not make them yours. They are NOT your images. This is copyright infringement and will not be tolerated here. Twice now I have caught you doing this. I suspect if I went through all of your images I would find others in the same category. You need to mark those images for deletion now. Do you understand? --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 12:18, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Try it! Woolly Mammoth 12:21, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
And, I was wondering how did you came to the conclusion that my art is stolen? Woolly Mammoth 12:23, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
OK. You are deliberately refusing to answer me. If I find a single image you have stolen and amended - in the same way as this Estolad one - I will consider deleting all your images and banning you from Tolkien Gateway. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 12:24, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
OK. You wan't to ban a user who did much to make site tolerable because of some damn picture? Go ahead! Woolly Mammoth 12:28, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I note your continued failure to engage with the issue at hand. I don't want to ban you, but your failure to co-operate may force me to do so; if you point confess now which images are other people's then I definitely won't ban you. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 12:31, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Like I said before...Tuor, Maeglin, Duilin, Galdor, Penlod, Rog...are NOT mine! All the others ARE mine...including Estolad. And I'm sorry for, sincerely, being drunk at the time. But still, considering Estolad, it's a landscape that I wish to edit to conform the standards of TG (which I did already). And yes, I'm not really into landscapes, though you were buffets for not accepting an edited image as an image in the, for example, infobox. Woolly Mammoth 12:40, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
NO! Estolad is not yours - why won't you understand this? --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 12:46, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
NOOOOOOOOOOO! Estolad is NOT mine! it is a goddamn photo for some unknown area in the world! BUT! I have decided to edit it to make it somehow believable to Middle-earth! I edited to make it somehow believable to Middle-earth! Ergo, this particular image IS mine! Woolly Mammoth 12:57, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No. You are wrong. Editing someone else's image does not make it yours in terms of copyright. You may possess the electronic file but you cannot claim it as yours for copyright purposes, and, therefore, it is not allowable on Tolkien Gateway. Please read this with particular reference to items 4, 5 and especially 6. This is the point, WM - amending copyrighted work does not enable you to claim it is yours. As you said, "Estolad is NOT mine! it is a goddamn photo for some unknown area in the world!" that remains the case even when you edit it. Please tell me you understand this principle. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 13:08, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This particular image has no copyright embedded to itself...so...it's free to use. Woolly Mammoth 13:17, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Try reading this again. Point 5. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 13:20, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
OK, I'm sincerely, really, sorry! I apologize for your trouble! Woolly Mammoth 13:23, 18 June 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
