Flies

Flies were a tiresome aerial insects: those in Mordor were marked with the sign of the Red Eye.[source?]
Names
The Quenya name for "small insect, fly" is pī.[1]
In Gnomish, one of Tolkien's early conceptions of an Elven language, the word for "fly" is sitha.[note 1][2]
