Galbasi is a Hobbitish surname, translated as "Gamwich". It was corrupted as Galpsi.[1]

Etymology[edit | edit source]

The surname comes from the name of the village Galabas "Gamwich".

The name Galabas uses the elements galab-, "game", and bas- "village", corresponding somewhat to "-wich" or "-wick".

Translation[edit | edit source]

The name was translated as Gammidgy and the corrupted form as Gamgee.
