Grishnákh was an orc of Mordor, and possibly one of the Uruk-hai. He was present at the torture and interrogation of Gollum and therefore knew about the One Ring. Grishnákh was part of a raiding party which captured Merry and Pippin at Parth Galen. He was the captain of a group of orcs which joined Uglúk's forces on the plains of Rohan during the War of the Ring. After seeing Merry and Pippin imitate Gollum's croaking noise, he believed they had the One Ring and planned on taking it from them. Before he could accomplish this he was slain by the Riders of Éomer near the eaves of Fangorn Forest.
Description
Grishnákh was described as being short, crook-legged creature, broad, with long arms hanging almost to the ground.
Portrayal in adaptations
In Peter Jackson's The Two Towers, Grishnákh is played by Stephen Ure. He is a common orc who is crushed by Treebeard after he attempts to kill the Merry and Pippin. While it is assumed this character is Grishnákh, the name is never spoken in the film.
