Sir John Boorman CBE (b. 18 January 1933) is an English film director who had planned a film adaptation of The Lord of the Rings, however the plan fell through, although he used some elements from his proposed film on the film Excalibur, which he directed.

Quotes[edit | edit source]

"I met Tolkien when I was preparing the film and he asked me if the film would be live-action or animated; he was relieved we weren't animating the film. Well, we all know what subsequently happened with Ralph Bakshi's version of Lord of the Rings which was animated."
― John Boorman[1]
