On 26 December 1971, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a letter to Joy Hill.[1]

  • Subject: Tolkien writes that he wore a gift from Joy on Christmas Day "with dazzling effect". He signs the letter "J.R.R.T" and notes that his contemporaries used to write his initials as "JR2T" and pronounce them "to rhyme with dirt".[1]
