Ken Jackson 4 January 1968 is a letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Ken Jackson, written on 4 January 1968.[1][2]
- Subject: In 1967, Humphrey Carpenter produced a stage adaptation of The Hobbit. Tolkien provided autographs for the actors but had neglected the technical crew. In response to this situation, Tolkien wrote a letter to the technical director enclosing "some stick-in autographs" and apologises to "the back-room boys of the drama" noting their "necessary, indeed very important, functions". He explains that his eldest son "used to perform the same functions at his school".[2]
- Descrition: Handwritten, two pages, on blindstamped headed paper.[2]
- Publication: The letter is described in The J.R.R. Tolkien Companion and Guide: Chronology.[1]
