Máhanaxar

From Tolkien Gateway

Máhanaxar, derived from Valarin Mâchananaškad, was the Ring of Doom outside the golden western gates of the city of the Valar. Here the Powers gathered to hold their great councils, bathed in the light of the Two Trees while those Trees still stood, and here some of the most momentous decisions of 's history were made.

It seems rather irregular that a Quenya word adapted from a non-Quenya word ending with a d would end with r, as Amanya Quenya in the past traditionally changed d to z before changing it to r, but z at the ends of words and before voiceless consonants became s, not r, so we could expect Máhanaxas even in Exilic Quenya. But since it's Máhanaxar instead, the stem ends with pure -r-, rather than -z- or an Exilic -r- that evolved from -z-. Template:Qya-decl-r
