This is a nice list, but it lacks any links and sometimes by year isn't the most efficient way of categorizing. Maybe we should separate this into multiple categories? Maybe Books by J.R.R. Tolkien by year[former link] or Books/by Year[former link] or something? --Hyarion 14:02, 9 March 2006 (EST)
Suggested standards
(in order to get a better overview of the list)
- Primary published works: Bold
- Published poems, articles, letters, etc by Tolkien: Bold+Italics
- Books by other author(s) with content by Tolkien: Normal
BTW, is it actually necesary to include information on publishers, editors, etc? When an entry has a page of its own, more detailed will be given on the indivdual page.

- Is this a standard just for this article?
- I would suggest primary published works in bold and italics (because they stand out the most on the page, I think), with published poems, articles letters etc. in bold, and other publications with content by Tolkien in italics (as it's pretty standard to do italicise book titles). --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 11:47, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Writings on J.R.R. Tolkien
With the current year-by-year headings, it kinda looks weird to have missing years. Can I propose using headers for each decade, also for the writings by Tolkien? That would benefit navigation and reduce the overly long table of contents. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 11:25, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, of course. How about: 1950-1959, 1960-1969, etc.? Or just 1950-, 1960-, ? I'm also a bit worried that the page will grow too large, maybe it needs to be split up in the future. --Morgan 11:30, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
Page split
The page is too long for my web browser to handle efficiently, and I always get lost trying to see if the deacades refer to books by or on Tolkien.
