Enthor's connection to the House of Hador[edit source]

Connecting Enthor to the House of Hador on the basis of the following sentence: "Manthor his grandson was proud of his kinship to Húrin's House (specifically via Hiril his grandmother)" makes zero sense.

It is Hiril, not Enthor who is related to the House of Hador. Specifically, Hiril is the aunt of Húrin (Húrin's mother Hareth being sister of Hiril). DaeronTalk 17:24, 6 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It's either Enthor or his son in law Agathor who were connected to the House of Hador.
Remember, Hiril was the sister of Hundar (who was the grandfather of Hardang) - and yet, Hardang is explicitly stated as not being related to the House of Hador (other than to Hurin and his children through Hundar's other sister Hareth): in other words, it can't be Hiril because then it would mean that Hardang was also related to the House of Hador.
There was some ill-feeling between the branches: on the one side akin to the House of Hador (via Gloredhel and via Hareth and Hiril) and [on the other] the line of Hundar. - 'The War of the Jewels', p. 309
This only leaves Enthor (Hiril's husband) or Agathor (the husband of Meleth, the daughter of Hiril and Enthor). However, since the note in question refers to Hiril in particular, I think it's more likely that it was Enthor. IvarTheBoneless (talk) 18:58, 6 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ah. It makes more sense with that explanation, the text as it stands is just a bit confusing.
So, the Hundar branch are related, but only by marriage, whilst Manthor's kin are likely directly descended from the House of Hador, via Enthor and Hiril. Makes sense. DaeronTalk 10:28, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Not quite - Hundar's branch is related through blood via Hundar's sisters Hareth (mother of Hurin and Huor) and Hiril (grandmother of Hunthor and Manthor), but it is not related to, say, Hurin via a 'House of Hador' branch.
