The Second Map of The Lord of the Rings is a map that was drawn by J.R.R. Tolkien during the writing of The Lord of the Rings. It was his working map during the writing of book V of The Lord of the Rings. It has map-squares of 2 centimetres side. Its scale is 2 centimetres for 100 miles. It was drawn in black ink. Red ink was used for a few alterations. In the final state corrections and additions were made in blue ink, in blue crayon and pencil. The Second Map of The Lord of the Rings has not been published, but redrawings drawn by Christopher Tolkien of its western and eastern portion with the vertical line of squares with the number 14 repeated on both portions are included in the book The War of the Ring, in chapter XIV "The Second Map". J.R.R. Tolkien used contour lines for the mountains and hills on this map.[1] The contents of the map are described in the same chapter.[2]
