Rochallor was the great horse of High King Fingolfin, on which he rode to the gates of Angband and challenged Morgoth to single combat.[2] Rochallor stayed with Fingolfin until his death. When assailed by the wolves of Angband the great steed escaped by outrunning them due to great swiftness. Coming to Hithlum, his heart broke and he died.[1]
Etymology[edit | edit source]
The first element in the name Rochallor is roch, the Sindarin word for "horse".[3] The second element is of unknown meaning.
