I think this phrase
- aire- is glossed as "holiness", aire (airē) is glossed as "sanctity, holiness", and airë is glossed as "sanctity".
...refers to only one, not three, gloss. There is no ambiguation between e and ë, since the diereses are only a typographic convention. The above sentence suggests that airë is a different lexicological gloss than aire. Sage 14:41, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- The idea is of course to render the glosses exactly as in the source. But I agree, the e/ë typography should perhaps be given a comment (in this and similar articles); not sure how to do it best, though.--Morgan 18:43, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hm... the subject of the exact glosses could perhaps best be done with the inline citations. For example let's say that a word appears in several sources with a variety of synonymous glosses.
