Is this redirect likely to be made use of? --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 18:10, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I think it is for the few people who only have the first edition of LOTR. --Amroth 18:15, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Who would type that - with the diaeresis - into the search box? --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 18:16, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
According to Angamaitë it appears with diaeresis in LOTR. With the right keyboard it wouldn't cost a second more then without diaeresis. --Amroth 18:23, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Which sort of keyboard? --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 18:35, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That able you to do SHIFT + ' + e, so you get an ë. --Amroth 18:46, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Not in the English-speaking world. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 19:02, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Nevertheless it appears in the books. --Amroth 19:12, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That was not the question. I didn't ask whether it shouldn't be mentioned, but whether this is a useful redirect.--Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 19:15, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
And I was replying to that. Maybe you could give a bit of argumentation why this wouldn't be a usefull redirect. --Amroth 19:27, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, he did actually (that few would search for such a rare term, and that even fewer would take the time to spell out the diaeresis). In any case, the question is how generous we should be about creating redirects for unusual forms and names. In this particular case, I actually searched for Angomaitë but didn't find anything, so clearly there is a theoretical situation (if I'm not to be considered unique!). --Morgan 19:33, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Actually, I (almost) always search with the diaeseris. Sometimes while the word does not even have diaeresis, before I joined Tolkien Gateway I searched once for Ithiliën (then, I thought it had diaeseris). I think it's better to have many redericts, while there are some that aren't used much, then to have fewer redericts, while people sometimes can't find anything. --Amroth 19:46, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I agree with you on this, Amroth. --Morgan 20:10, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
