Template:Book[edit source]

In case we're going to use the Template:Book for magazines and journals it would be great to have a line for "issue", or something similar. I'm thinking that this line would add text to the "title" but not in italics (if you see what I mean). Any idea? --Morgan 18:44, 3 January 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I have to admit I'm not entirely sold on the principle of one template for both books and journals. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 16:39, 4 January 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Mithbot: The Hobbit(s)[edit source]

It seems like the Mithbot made some strange edits back in 2010 - at least on one occasion it changed the link to The Hobbit to The Hobbits. Do you know why it happened here, and did it possibly happen in other articles as well (which we haven't noticed)?--Morgan 10:05, 28 January 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Only one other, which I've just fixed. This is quite an easy error to find, after all. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 12:07, 28 January 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Happy Birthday[edit source]

Happy birthday! --Amroth 14:00, 4 March 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Same here. --Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 14:13, 4 March 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Mithbot: Melkor/Morgoth[edit source]

I merged Melkor with Morgoth, as per talk page. Would you have time to look into letting Mithbot handle the relinking? What do you reckon, should "Melkor" redirect to the section "Melkor" in the article on Morgoth, or just to the Morgoth article itself?--Morgan 00:02, 19 March 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

KingAragorn Bot feels unloved.-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  11:10, 19 March 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh, sorry - I thought you used the same bot! Feel free to put KingAragorn Bot in work! ;-) --Morgan 11:23, 19 March 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Done. I replaced [[Melkor]] with [[Morgoth|Melkor]].-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  15:58, 20 March 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks for having this conversation on my talk page. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 22:56, 20 March 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Addition to the Welcoming message?[edit source]

Do you think we should add something about the confirmation questions (and perhaps also not being able to upload images), disappearing after a few edits, to the automatic welcoming message? I'm thinking that it might be confusing and annoying for newly registered users? --Morgan 00:44, 20 March 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Fairuse template Sideshow Collectibles[edit source]

Hi Mith, Could you add Template:Fairuse-Sideshowcollectibles to the licensing list? --Amroth 17:18, 6 April 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Done. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 19:20, 6 April 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks --Amroth 10:07, 7 April 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Dagor Dagorlad[edit source]

Will there be any actual work/books related to or based on Dagor Dagorath the battle of all battles as it has remained unfinished for the moment? Unsigned comment by Frodo55 (talk • contribs).

TheDagor Dagorath (also referred to as Last Battle, the Final Battle, the Second Prophecy of Mandos and the Battle of the Gods) is alluded to and mentioned through Tolkien's works, but you can read most about it in The Shaping of Middle-earth (especially p. 165.) and in The Lost Road and Other Writings (especially p. 333). I hope this helps, if ever you pop back! --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 12:41, 13 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

New extension[edit source]

In response to my extension request to make a special query page which lists all files without a copyright license, I have received a very helpful reply. As you can see, this solution utilises the forum extension. It would be useful for this purpose, but no doubt it will come in handy for other tasks too. Could you install it? -- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  16:11, 18 June 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Coincidentally, I was advised to go for this extension. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 16:29, 18 June 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
We could use either extension, it's your call. I would favour the one maintained by Wikimedia. But by all means go for the third-party one if you want to use any of the extra features not available in the Wikimedia extension.-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  18:07, 18 June 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Article deletion/merge[edit source]

Someone created an article on this wiki for my wife, Dorothea Salo[former link]. Aside from being extremely out of date and inaccurate, it also seems to be getting Dorothea a significant number of unwanted e-mails that really ought to be directed to me. Dorothea hasn't been directly involved in Tolkien fandom for many, many years and she's not running the Elfling mailing list any more -- I am. I'm not sure about your policies and procedures, but it would save Dorothea a good deal of trouble and worry if we could get that article (and links to it) removed; any relevant information can be put on my page, David Salo. I know that I can't make drastic changes like that by myself, but I also don't see the need of going through some drawn-out deletion discussion; Dorothea is not in any way a "public figure", and she doesn't really want to be discussed online in this sort of venue. As for me, I gather that I am in some minor sense a "public figure", so I'm just going to have to put up with it, but I don't see why she should pay the penalty for my sins! :) David Salo 23:38, 18 July 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I agree with you. I don't think she's noteworthy enough to warrant an article, so I shall remove it. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 12:39, 27 July 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

New user looking for answer[edit source]

Recently i was edit some wikies, but here i can't find UPLOAD file tool. Do i have to upload on other site first? I have few original created works concerns The Silmarillion and i want to contribute to this great GATEWAY. -- Deltaruler Current UTC (or GMT/Zulu)-time used: Wednesday, 25 July 2012, 20:46:28

You need to make a few edits before you are able to upload files. This is stop spambots from signing up and uploading images (as used to happen). --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 12:21, 13 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ancanar[edit source]

I saw that you deleted the Ancanar page. Did you get the reply from Malcoumb? Sage 12:09, 13 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yes. He said it wasn't set in Middle-earth but was "definitely influenced" by The Silmarillion. I'm not sure if that's strong enough for us (after all, you could argue almost any modern fantasy story is "definitely influenced" by Tolkien). Anyway, he's no longer working on the project and I think we're unlikely to see it in the near future, if at all. If it pops up again I can always resurrect the page. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 12:19, 13 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
