Enormous New Tolkien Exhibit![edit source]

Hey Mith, check this out! This is huge! http://www.openculture.com/2019/01/the-largest-j-r-r-tolkien-exhibit-in-generations-is-coming-to-the-u-s.html

--Holdwine Meriadoc (Talk/Contribs/Edits)

Check the location on my profile. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 21:26, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Wow. I'm such a Took. Sorry. --Holdwine Meriadoc (Talk/Contribs/Edits)

Hobitit[edit source]

Why didn't anyone edit this page before? You could have added these information before me. Unsigned comment by 80.107.134.88 (talk).

I could, but I didn't. There is no commissioning editor for Tolkien Gateway, so each user edits what they want to edit. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 16:13, 7 June 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Middle-earτh Shadow of War[edit source]

Hello. Can you upload at least one image related to the videogame Middle-earth Shadow of War?I don't have the ability to upload images on Tolkien Gateway but you do. Unsigned comment by 94.64.73.128 (talk).

I do, but I don't want to do it! --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 19:31, 8 June 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Only one image and nothing more. Unsigned comment by 94.64.73.128 (talk).
Nope. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 20:48, 10 June 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Reverts to Kings' Reckoning edits?[edit source]

Is there a particular reason why all my edits over the past year to the Kings' Reckoning have been reverted? I tried to keep my revisions contained so if there was some problem with one of them, that 1 revision could easily be reverted, but why revert them all? Even adding a fact tag and a link to Elven had to be reverted? --Murlo 07:08, 11 June 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Apologies, I only saw the latest edit and I only intended to revert that rather than the, all. The reason for wanting to revert the last one is we generally use {{sources}} over repeated {{fact}}s. Sorry about that; I was rushing and must have missed that you had other edits there. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 19:50, 11 June 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
OK, I see now. Thanks for the clarification. Maybe I'll make note of the translations that still need sources in that article's talk page instead. --Murlo 21:25, 11 June 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Please stop editing my talk page (it being mine). Don't feel the need to reply to this message. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 08:14, 28 July 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Amazon Middle-earth series[edit source]

Why doesn't someone create page about the Amazon Middle-earth series? Unsigned comment by 80.107.122.67 (talk).

I don't know, I can't speak for everyone. As I explainted above to 80.107.134.88, the things that get edited and created and are the things the editors want to do. No one directs the editors to what they "should" edit. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 18:34, 28 July 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Image[edit source]

Hello. I would like to upload images on Tolkien Gateway. Can you allow me? Unsigned comment by Gegou (talk • contribs).

No. You have to have a certain number of edits before you can; it happens automatically. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 18:39, 2 August 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:Webcite[edit source]

Hi, can we please have the Template:Webcite with the <ref></ref> tags? I have to copy it from somewhere else, as it is incomplete. Or there is any reason why it must be just like that? Thanks. --LorenzoCB 11:28, 6 August 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

"<ref></ref>" isn't part of the template so shouldn't be included in the usage information; there are (albeit rare) occasions where someone will use {{webcite}} without using <ref></ref> tags (such as when part of another template). I'm sure you can remember to type "<ref></ref>". --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 14:13, 28 August 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Changing username[edit source]

Hi, Ederchil told me to ask you: Would it be possible to change my username? I started editing a few things and now I'm non stopping and it feels weird having my name everywhere. No hurry, and if it's too complicated, I'll keep editing as always. Thanks! --LorenzoCB 17:14, 21 August 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Unfortunately in our version of the MediaWiki software this isn't possible. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 14:14, 28 August 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh... Thanks anyways.--LorenzoCB 14:59, 28 August 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Complaint[edit source]

Fool. Why did you do that? After all I have done in Tolkien Gateway? You only know how to blog other users don't you? Unsigned comment by Gegou (talk • contribs).

I blocked you because I asked you to remove plagiarised material and you didn't do so, and secondly to upload files in line with our naming conventions, which you also failed to do. If you continue to persist in breaching policy you will continue to get blocked. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 10:17, 22 September 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Complaint as well[edit source]

Really, you had to delete my article? I understand that it is a race of spiders, but still, I felt it was important to show their portrayal in "Flies and Spiders". I spent over an hour on that! Look, I get it. You're an administrator. But next time, please, let me make a copy before you delete it so I can have it in my personal archives. I like to keep what I write, even if it is just to myself, and you just deleted hours of work.

Aha, I've just found this quote on the Tolkien Gateway official page! Tolkien Gateway is determined to inform you as much as possible about J.R.R. Tolkien and his masterpieces. Our goal is to have the most complete database about Middle-earth and Tolkien as possible. Do you not consider me as helping inform? If you want "the most complete database", then you're going to have to dive in to every little thing. Such as, Mirkwood Spiders. Unsigned comment by Shelob'sWeb (talk • contribs).

There is already an article on Spiders in this website. You could mention the Mirkwood spiders in there if you wish to do so instead of writing another article on a certain branch of spiders, especially as the Spiders article needs cleanup and expansion. --Holdwine Meriadoc (Talk/Contribs/Edits)
Indeed, that's exactly where a reference to Mirkwood spiders should go. But more specific information on why I deleted the article:
  • It had no categories
  • It had no references
  • It had no introduction
  • It had no body as described in TG:MOS
  • It was mostly one long quote from Flies and Spiders, and probably better within that article. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 13:05, 8 October 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Question about Pictures[edit source]

I haven't reached enough edits to put up pictures, but I intend to. Could you explain to me how fair use of them works and how I can upload them staying within guidelines? Unsigned comment by Shelob'sWeb (talk • contribs).

Version[edit source]

Just relaized we still run on MediaWiki 1.17. That's a version from 2011, the most recent stable release is 1.33.1. Everything below vanilla 1.31 is no longer supported. Is an update feasible? There won't be much use for many of the features, but in terms of security and performance it's always better to keep up to date. --Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 20:23, 20 November 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Funnily enough I was speaking to Hyarion about this recently and I believe the aim is to look at an upgrade over Christmas. I would like to do a responsive design as well so this works well properly on mobile. Thanks for the nudge! --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 20:37, 20 November 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

New category for servants of Tevildo and Grima Wormtongue[edit source]

Should we make a category for the "thanes of Tevildo"? There are several cats in his employ (Umuiyan, Miaule, Oikeroi...) and Beren was also briefly forced into a thrall of Tevildo the Prince of Cats. Or should I just put them in the category for the servants of Melko/Melkor/Morgoth? Also, since Grima Wormtongue gave up information on the Shire to the Witch-king of Angmar (at least out of fear) and revealed Saruman's double treachery can he be counted as a servant of Sauron (even if he is doing it out of cowardice and genuine fear for his own life)? --LordoftheEarth 10:04, 14 December 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

In my view, no. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 20:09, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
