References[edit source]

Hi Ríë - thanks for your work on our linguistic articles. I just wanted to run you through a couple of things:

  1. To add a reference to a page we use a referencing extension. But to make things easier for editors we have a number of citation templates (including Template:Webcite, which includes Ardalambion) that I would encourage you to use.
  2. Articles should never have URLs visible to the reader. You can click here to find out how to create a hyperlink, but I would encourage you to include all links in either an "External links" section at the bottom of the article or (preferably) as part of a reference.
  3. When creating a new article - or adding new information to an existing article - be mindful of the fact that you have a responsibility to provide a reference; don't expect that anyone else will do this for you. Unsourced information is liable to be removed which we would not want as we don't want to lose your hard work!

Hope this helps! --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 12:32, 7 August 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Ríë. A link to Ardalambion does not constitute a reference; references should be a footnote using the referencing extension above. The meanings of words should also be cited to - wherever possible - primary sources such as Vinyar Tengwar or The Book of Lost Takes. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 07:48, 8 August 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm sorry that i'm making so many mistakes but I have a question about the Vinyar Tengwar. For example, I found -le in the index. When it says VT39 18, is this a source or do I have to source something else? Thanks for your patience. Ríë 12:49, 8 August 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm also wondering how I reference the Parma Eldalamberon XVII. When I tried to source -lë with <ref>{{PE|Eldarin}}, pp.58-9</ref>, it wouldn't work. Thanks for help.
Don't worry about making mistakes - we all do when we start, and we're here to help. I am not an expert on languages - User:Morgan and User:Sage are much more knowledgeable than I am - but Vinyar Tengwar generally includes primarily material so you can reference it. Morgan made the reference templates so please drop him a message on his talk page and he might be able to help you our with PE 17 (could you not use "{{PE|17}}, pp. 58-9" though?)
In terms of formatting the linguistic articles, our conventions are a little sketchy. But in terms of the general layout - include examples, cognates and roots - take a look at laure, aikasse and elda for some idea of how we do things.
Thanks for all your help! --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 11:47, 10 August 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Questions[edit source]

Hi there. I was browsing your dictionary articles and I'd like to ask you the purpose of multiple entries in each article, like mar1, mar2 and so on. Are they written as such in your original source? (Parma Eldalamberon) If not, what is your logic behind separating them?

For example, in entry -l I believe all 3 sections describe one single word and should be condensed into one, with separate sentences about each usage.

Other than that, I suggest to browse in our existing dictionary articles and follow our example. I used to include sections with example. E.g. it would be a good idea in your -ielde article to make a section with some names with that ending.

BTW because I don't pown the PE issue, I am somehow skeptic with some of your entries. For example, does PE say that Manwe contains the ending -nwe and is analyzed as Ma(n)-nwe? Or is it your own intepretation?

Also, does PE say that hru- is a prefix? I don't think it's a prefix, your example seems like a compound word. Sage 11:30, 10 August 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The reason I separated the meanings in some of my articles is because they were separate entries in the PE so I thought it would be improper to combine them. For the articles that don't have any examples, I will surely work on that in the future. Also, the PE does marks -nwe as a suffix giving Manwe as an example and it also marks hru- as a suffix although the example could be a compound word so I'll look into it.
