The Mark

A shortening of Riddermark, the common name for the land of Rohan among the Rohirrim themselves.

Etymology

Mark here is used in the sense of the "boundary mark". The original untranslated Rohirric term was perhaps *grad (from Lôgrad, the whole name of Riddermark)
