Welcome to Tolkien Gateway's Community Portal
A one-stop shop for editors old and new
Tolkien Gateway is an encyclopedia about Tolkien that anyone can edit. Since our launch on 3 June 2005, we have grown to include 13,557 articles and 17,436 images on a range of Tolkien-related topics.
This Community Portal is designed to help editors find something to work on. It covers a range of ways you can share your Tolkien knowledge with the world including creating wanted pages, expanding stub articles, cleaning up poorly-written pages and added references to articles in need of citations. Some of the work might be a little tedious, but a little goes a long way in continuing to build the world's largest Tolkien encyclopedia.

Site updates
2024
- 29-11-2024 - Short URL's can now be created for any article by selecting the three dots in the corner and choosing "Get shortened URL"
- 24-6-2024 - When editing an article, an automatic draft is now saved. You can close your browser and re-open it without losing your work.
- 9-6-2024 - We have upgraded to the latest version of MediaWiki, 1.41.
- 3-6-2024 - Editors can now click a "Preview" button in the top right when using "Edit source". This will show a preview of your changes next to the code.
- 3-6-2024 - You may have noticed we have made some minor tweaks to our theme. We will be spending the next several months updating various templates with more design surprises in store. Stay tuned!

Uploading images
When uploading an image be sure to use the appropriate copyright template by selecting it from the "Licensing" drop-down box. All you need do is provide a summary of the image and the category.
Remember: do not upload images to Tolkien Gateway without prior permission of the copyright-holder unless you believe it falls under fair-use.
