Duilin was an Elf-lord of Gondolin according to the early version of the legendarium in The Book of Lost Tales.

History[edit | edit source]

He was the chief of the folk of the Swallow. He was the "swiftest of all men to run and leap",[1]:173 and the surest of the archers of the Eldalië.[2]

When the Fall of Gondolin began, Gothmog led Melko's armies to the northern gate, but the folks of the Swallow and of the Arch were in the northern walls and began pouring arrows from the there.[1]:176 As he shot, Duilin perished falling from the battlements after being smitten by a fiery bolt of the Balrogs from outside the city.[1]:178

Etymology[edit | edit source]

His name means "Swallow" in Gnomish; its Qenya form was Tuilindo.[2]
