Mámandil is a Quenya word meaning "friend of sheep" and possibly also "shepherd".
"Mámandil" was the pseudonym of Hallacar of Hyarastorni while he wooed Ancalimë on the pastoral lands of Emerië.
The name derives from Máma "sheep" and -ndil "friend of, devoted to".
