J.R.R. Tolkien's War in Middle-Earth is a real-time strategy game developed and designed by Mike Singleton,[1][2][3][4] Robert Clandy[5] and Alan B. Clark[1]who worked for Australian company Melbourne House, and was released in 1988 for 8 and 16 bit home computers.[1][2][6][3]

The game combined included both large-scale and small-scale battles. The locations in the game could be viewed from both the map and at the ground level.. The ground view feature in the game was exclusive to the last 100 units remaining, Otherwise the battle could only be viewed statistically. Within each battle characters could acquire objects[6] and talk to ally NPCs (such as Radagast or Tom Bombadil).

The package of the game contained an original elaborate poster map of the Westlands.
