Caliondo (Q, pron. [ˌkaliˈondo]) was a Númenórean of royal blood, and was the son of Eärendur, who was the younger son of King Tar-Amandil. He himself had one son, Malantur. Almost nothing is known of his life.[1]

Etymology[edit | edit source]

Caliondo is a Quenya name. Its meaning is not glossed, but Helge Fauskanger suggests it may be a longer form of Calion, unless it contains ondo ("rock").[2] The meaning of Calion (the Quenya name of Ar-Pharazôn) is not glossed, but Paul Strack suggests it means "Son of Light" and is a compound of cala ("light") and the patronymic suffix -ion ("-son", masculine patronymic).[3] Paul Strack suggests Caliondo is a combination of cala ("light") and the masculine agantal suffix -ndo.[4]
