Daphne R. Castell (1929[1] - 3 August 1983[2]) was a British science-fiction writer and librarian. During the 1950s at Oxford University, J.R.R. Tolkien supervised her thesis about Thomas Chatterton, which was never completed.[1][3] She married Malcolm Cloke in 1955.[1]

In late spring or early summer 1966, Castell conducted an interview with Tolkien for the magazine New Worlds.[3]
