Games Workshop is a British game production and retailing company, founded in 1975. One of its key products is the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game, along with its more popular titles, Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000

History of Tolkienia[edit | edit source]

Games Workshop's magazine White Dwarf (founded in 1977) has featured much material related to game adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth.

In 1985, Games Workshop introduced the MERP-system in the UK by publishing Middle-earth, The Role-playing Game set in J.R.R. Tolkien's World.

In 2001, Games Workshop introduced The Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game, a miniature game based on The Lord of the Rings (film series).

In 2005 was released the board game The Battle of Five Armies, based on the events of the Battle of Five Armies from The Hobbit.

In 2012, Games Workshop introduced The Hobbit Strategy Battle Game, a miniature game based on The Hobbit (film series).

In 2018, Games Workshop merged the two strategy battle games together under the new game Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game.
