Iorlas was a man from Gondor.

History[edit | edit source]

Iorlas was an uncle of Bergil, either Beregond's brother or brother-in-law. When Pippin mentioned to Bergil he was 29 years old, this surprised Bergil, as his uncle Iorlas was also 29, and nigh twice as tall as the Hobbit.[1]

Etymology[edit | edit source]

Iorlas could either mean "Old Leaf" or "Old Joy" in Sindarin.

Portrayal in adaptations[edit | edit source]

Iorlas in adaptations

2003: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King:

One of the Gondorians on the battlements of Minas Tirith was Iorlas. He is only identified as Iorlas on a Decipher Card.

2015: The Lord of the Rings Online:

Iorlas is Beregond's brother and is first found on the seventh level of pre-battle Minas Tirith. During the siege of the city he is struck by a fallen stone, but is protected by his helmet, suffering only what he calls a "dizziness".
