Silme nuquerna
Silmë Nuquerna is the name in
Quenya of the thirtieth letter of the
Tengwar alphabet.
[1] In form it is an inversion of the twenty-ninth letter (
Silmë). It is mostly used as a variation, especially in modes employing superimposed
tehtar,
[2] and it represents
S. However, in the
Mode of Beleriand, as seen as in the inscription on the
West-gate of
Moria,
[3] Silmë Nuquerna represents vocalic
Y.
[4] The Westron name for this letter is
Ós.
