Talk:Berylla Boffin

From Tolkien Gateway

Under the Etymology section there is this sentence:

"Perhaps it's not unintentional that a Hobbit woman with a jewel-name married into the Baggins family, recently made rich by Bilbo's travels."

Berylla Baggins could not have married into the Baggins family after Bilbo Baggins' travels. Berylla Baggins was Bilbo's great-grandmother, born in S.R. 1172. She would have been 169 years old in S.R. 1341 when Bilbo, Gandalf, and the dwarves met for the quest of Erebor. The reference for the statement is from page 198 of An Introduction to Elvish, but the only comment there is that she married "into the somewhat nouveau riche Baggins family".
