Third Age 2983
From Tolkien Gateway
Third Age 2983 (abbreviated to T.A. 2983) is the 2983rd year of the Sun of the Third Age of Middle-earth. Third Age 2983 was also known as S.R. 1383 in Shire-reckoning.
Notable events in this year include:
- Birth of Faramir, son of Steward Denethor II of Gondor and Finduilas.[1][2]
- Birth of Ferdibrand Took, son of Ferdinand Took.[3]
- Birth of Mentha Brandybuck, second child and first daughter of Marmadas Brandybuck.[4]
- Birth of Marigold Gamgee, sixth child and third daughter of Hamfast Gamgee and Bell Goodchild.[5]
Other versions of the legendarium[edit | edit source]
The second edition of Appendix B to The Lord of the Rings had Samwise Gamgee's birth this year, which contradicted other information. The 50th Anniversary Edition corrected it to T.A. 2980.
