Agenda[edit source]

Item Responsible Member Discussion Point Outcome
#1 KingAragorn Meeting opening. Mith, Ederchil, Gamling, Hyarion, KingAragorn, and Morgan were all in attendance.
#2 KingAragorn Do we need to have an article for every track from soundtrack albums and every scene of films? It was decided that we should have an article for every track from soundtrack albums and every scene from films.
#3 KingAragorn Establish a course of action for images. How should we handle images taken from role-playing games? It was agreed that we should delete all images by artists who do not reply within three months of contacting them.
#4 Morgan Continue discussion from earlier meeting: how to do with the issue of canon? Should we stop using Template:Disputedcanon[former link] and Template:Disputedcanon[former link] [sic!]? Should it be up to the reader to decide the canonical status, based on given references (and the text of the article)? It was agreed that all canoncity templates should be scrapped (apart from adaptations). We, as Tolkien Gateway contributors, can not make the judgement about whether or not something is canon. A canonicity section should be added to allow the reader to make up their own mind.
#5 KingAragorn How can we get more traffic to TG? How can we get more editors on TG? We need a long strategy and one which will address the likely increase in traffic following the release of the films. It was agreed that we should work on our SEO - get more websites linking to us. Mith indicated that he would design a skin which will be much more user-friendly. The positive relationship with the Middle-earth Network was praised. The idea of renaming TG was mooted, but rejected. It was agreed that we needed our own logo to help our branding - it would need to be incorporated into the new skin and could potentially be drawn by Tolkien artists. To help new editors it was agreed that we should redesign our help pages. The idea of setting up a TG donation fund to finance advertising was suggested - it is something to consider in the future.
#6 Sage Have we determined how to date the First Age years? Robert Foster had made some work to assemble a FA "Tale of Years" based on the published Silmarillion. Tolkien had made more detailed dating in his Grey/Annals/of Valinor, but at times they contradict the published Silmarillion. As it was quite late and many people had left, this item was deferred.
#7 KingAragorn Adjournment discussions and meeting adjournment. N/A
