Tolkien Gateway talk:IRC Trivia

From Tolkien Gateway

Forgive me if it is entirely my lack of sight, but I don't exactly understand what this page is. For instance, what does IRC stand for? What is the trivia it refers to? --Narfil Palùrfalas 16:42, 11 July 2006 (EDT)

Ah! Forgive me for not informing you earlier. IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat and Tolkien Gateway runs our own chat network, we host a dozen or two channels and the main channel has anywhere from 20-30 Tolkien geeks in it. This Trivia page in particular is inserted into one of our Tolkien Trivia bots located in channel #Trivia and chatters can answer questions and play as teams or solo to gain ranks/points/etc. We need to get both you and Ebakunin into the chat as it works great for going back and forth on ideas about the wiki as adding replies in Forums:Council can be slow. You can connect to the chat network through a java client or through a more preferred and featureful client such as X-Chat. Let me know if you have any other questions as we'd love to see you on there. --Hyarion 22:15, 11 July 2006 (EDT)
