"When winter first begins to bite" is a brief poem spoken by Bilbo Baggins to Frodo in "The Ring Goes South", in which he warns Frodo of the dangers of traveling in wintertime.

Text[edit | edit source]

When winter first begins to bite
and stones crack in the frosty night,
when pools are black and trees are bare,
'tis evil in the Wild to fare.
