yanta is a noun meaning "bridge" or "yoke" in Quenya.[1]

Yanta is the name in Quenya of the thirty-fifth letter of the Tengwar alphabet.[1] In most modes it is used as a consonant and represents Y.[2] However, in the Mode of Beleriand, as seen as in the inscription on the West-gate of Moria, Yanta represents E.[3] The Westron name for this letter is Ai.[4]

Etymology

The word derives from the Primitive Quendian root YAT.[5]
