Move[edit source]

Seeing as all then video games have been renamed, shouldn't the movies be renamed too? The Lord of the Rings (film series), for example? -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 10:16, 14 January 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Name[edit source]

Is The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy really the name for the three films? It seems to me that the term was only used for DVD releases. Isn't it just The Lord of the Rings? Perhaps we should rename this "The Lord of the Rings (film series)", and change The Hobbit (film series) to "The Hobbit (film series)"?-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  16:18, 15 November 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Bump. Whilst there's no rush with "The Lord of the Rings (film series)", I'm quite eager to move The Hobbit (film series) to "The Hobbit (film series)". Please tell me what you think!-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  18:59, 17 November 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I feel that just adding "(film series)" is a little too general. I would expect an article titled "The Hobbit (film series)" to discuss and compare all movie versions of the The Hobbit - the 1966, 1977, 1985 Russian, and the 3 Peter Jackson versions. Perhaps I'm being too picky or pedantic but I think "The Hobbit (Peter Jackson's film series)" would be better (although obviously longer). --Gamling 19:36, 11 November 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
We need not add "Peter Jackson's" because there are no other Hobbit film series. There are single films, yes, but no other film series. So "The Hobbit (film series)" should be sufficient as long as no other Hobbit film series is made. The same reasoning applies to "Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings" (which, incidentally, is how this article was named a few years go).-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  20:02, 17 November 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
What other The Lord of the Rings film series are there? Aside from that, we do admit that some things are better known than others and all articles are not of equal importance. Hence why "Eärendil" goes to the First Age character who persuaded the Valar to save Middle-earth from Morgoth and not the disambiguation page. Also, it could be argued that "The Motion Picture Trilogy" is a description rather than a name.
+1 move to "The Lord of the Rings (film series)". --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 11:54, 24 November 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Box office ranking[edit source]

I think LOTR The Return of the King is not the second highest grossing movie of all time (sadly).--Shivam (Talk /Contribs/Edits) 18:46, 9 May 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
