First Age 1 (abbreviated to F.A. 1) is the 1st year of the Sun of the First Age of Middle-earth.
Notable events in this year include:
- The first rising of the Sun marks a new reckoning of time,[note 1] and the end of the Sleep of Yavanna.[1][2] Morgoth and his servants cannot bear the light of the Sun.[3][4]
- The Second Children of Ilúvatar, Men, awake in the far east in Hildórien. Morgoth then leaves Angband in secret, committing command of the war to Sauron; he seeks to corrupt Men.[1][2]
- With the first sunrise, the host of Fingolfin arrives in Mithrim after the crossing of the Helcaraxë.[2][5]
- Fingolfin marches unopposed across Dor Daedeloth and bangs on the Gates of Angband; however, Morgoth remains hidden.[2][5]
Notes
- ↑ It should be noted that F.A. 1 is not the first year of the First Age per se, but rather the first measurable Year of the Sun within that Age, since it began in Y.T. 1050 with the Awakening of the Elves.
