Hador (Third Age 22452395, aged 150 years) was the seventh Ruling Steward of Gondor.

History[edit | edit source]

The rule of Hador occurred during the time of the Watchful Peace (T.A. 2063-2460) so Gondor enjoyed peace throughout his reign.[1]

On the three hundredth anniversary of the Stewards' Reckoning, the calendar introduced by his ancestor Mardil Voronwë, Hador added an extra day to the year T.A. 2360. This was done to reduce the millennial deficit, thus keeping the calendar in synchronization with the seasons.[2]

Hador ruled Gondor for one hundred and seventeen years, and was succeeded by his son Barahir.[3] Hador was the last Gondorian to live 150 years and after his time the life-span of those with Númenórean blood waned more rapidly.[4]

Etymology[edit | edit source]

For the meaning of his name refer to Hador (word). Hador was probably named after Hador Lórindol, the ancient Lord of Dor-lómin, a great hero of the First Age.[5]
